Description
5 and 7 Church Street is a late 17th-century house and shops, later altered in the late 20th century and now used as offices. The building is constructed of colourwashed brick with a pantiled roof. Originally designed with a lobby-entrance plan, it has a curved front facing the street. The central panelled entrance door is within a 20th-century surround, with two horned sash windows on either side of the door, the left window replacing a former shop front. The first floor has five horned sash windows, each with one glazing bar. The gabled roof has a prominent square ridge stack over the door, built on a moulded plinth and with a panelled main shaft. A further bay to the right is now incorporated into the office space. A blocked doorway with a moulded hood is located to the left, next to a two-light cross casement; a similar casement is positioned above it. The south gable is shaped with an ogee lower curve, terminating in an internal gable end stack. Internally, a blocked window is visible on the first floor to the rear. The roof features staggered butt purlins and occasional straight windbraces.
