Description

No. 2 Damgate Street is a shop and flat located in Wymondham, dating back to the 16th century with later alterations. The building features a combination of timber framing and brick, topped with a roof of black glazed pantiles. It has two storeys, with the southern part being entirely timber-framed and partially brick. The entrance consists of a half-glazed door, accompanied by a three-light casement window to its right. A carved jetty bressumer displays three orders of roll mouldings and two planes of staggered bars. The first floor is close studded and has a two-light casement window for illumination. The northern part of the building is brick-cased, featuring a plank door flanked by a three-light casement window on each side. On the first floor, there is a five-light early 19th-century casement window, with the outer metal lights able to open. The gabled roof includes a 18th-century ridge stack. At the rear, there are two gabled dormers in the roof along with various brick and pantiled outshut extensions. Inside, the main ground-floor bridging beam south of the stack is adorned with two orders of roll mouldings and bars, while a similar south wall plate can be found. There is also a double wave-moulded bridging beam north of the stack, and the former north gable wall is timber-framed at the first floor. The roof is boarded but has seen significant renewal.
