Description
Nos. 1, 3, and 3A on Church Street is a shop with origins dating back to the 16th century, although it has been significantly altered over time. The building features a timber frame with a brick skin and a roof covered in black glazed pantiles. The eastern portion is part of the Damgate Street range. The right side has a 20th-century shop front beneath a four-light casement window on the first floor. The main range facing Church Street is from the 17th century and is also timber-framed with a 19th-century brick skin. It has two storeys and a dormer attic, arranged in six irregular bays. There are 20th-century shop fronts on both the right and left sides of the elevation, with two 20th-century doors and a display window made of armour glass between them. The first floor has six casement windows, five of which are three-light and one is two-light. The gabled roof has a gabled dormer and a central ridge stack. At the rear, there are 20th-century brick extensions and some evidence of timber framing at the first floor. Inside, number 1 features a double wave-moulded bridging beam on the ground floor, while the rest of the interiors have little of interest.
