Description
The Town Hall, located at No. 14 Middleton Street, is an early 19th-century building constructed of brick with a roof made of black glazed pantiles. It stands three stories tall and features five bays. The central entrance consists of a fielded and panelled door set within a timber case, which includes margin lights and reeded pilaster strips. Above the door is a segmental fanlight with eight vanes, framed by a gauged arch. The windows are sash style with glazing bars and are topped with gauged skewback arches, while the lower two stories also have discreet sash hoods. The building has a double block timber eaves cornice and a gabled roof with internal gable-end stacks.
Inside, there is a stick baluster staircase with a ramped and wreathed handrail. The council chamber features a Regency fire surround, adorned with leaf trails on the jambs, a central swag, and a dentil cornice beneath the mantelpiece.
