Description
No. 20 Lower Market Street is a town house with a later shop front, dating from the early to mid 19th century, built on a 17th-century site. The building is constructed of stucco and features channelled rustication on the first floor. It has an asbestos slate hipped roof behind a parapet, adorned with a moulded and modillion cornice. The structure has a deep plan and consists of three storeys with a three-window range. The late 19th-century horned sash windows have margin panes, and there is a wider oriel sash window at the centre of the first floor. The ground floor showcases a late 19th-century double shop front with end pilasters, consoles, and moulded entablatures. To the right, there is a house doorway with a four-panel door and a leaded overlight, along with a ventilation grill above the shop windows and a deeply splayed shop doorway. The interior of the shop contains old shelves, but it has not been fully inspected.
