Description

The premises of B. Nance and Son is a house and shop built in the mid to late 19th century, with few later alterations. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble and features a slate roof with crested ridge tiles, hipped over the main range. The main part of the building, located to the left, has a double-depth plan with a shop on the ground floor and living accommodation above. To the right, there is a slightly set-back wing that also has a shop at the ground floor.

The exterior of the main range is symmetrical, with three storeys and three windows. It has painted quoins and deep bracketed eaves. The 19th-century double shop front includes two square bays with plate-glass windows divided by colonnettes that have foliate capitals and bases. There is a recessed central 20th-century door with a panelled ceiling in the recess, and a 20th-century fascia with a cornice that continues with the range to the right. The first and second floors feature three plate-glass sashes in eared architraves, with smaller similar windows on the second floor.

The wing to the right is lower and two storeys high, with two plate-glass sashes at the first floor in eared architraves. The ground floor has a two-bay shop window with ovolo-moulded mullions and a 20th-century door to the left, along with a plain fascia and cornice above. The left side of the building continues the shop window with two bays set at an angle, featuring a central 20th-century door, with colonnettes continuing and a cornice over the fascia. The first and second floors have two plate-glass sashes similar to those on the front, with quoins on the left side. The interior has not been inspected.
