Description
2 and 4 Broad Street are a pair of attached houses built in the early to mid 19th century, with some 20th-century alterations. They are constructed from granite and slatestone rubble, featuring brick dressings, and have a bitumenised slate roof with ridge tiles; the roof is hipped at the left end and gabled at the right. There is an axial stack with a brick shaft.
The houses have a one-room plan, with the rooms located in the center and sharing the axial stack. The entrances are positioned at the outer ends of the front, one on the right and one on the left. The exterior is two storeys high, presenting a symmetrical front with No 2 on the right and No 4 on the left. No 2 features a ground floor 4-pane sash window and a 20th-century door with an overlight to the right. There are two 4-pane sashes at the first floor, all dating from the 19th century. No 4 on the left has a 20th-century door to the left and a large 20-pane sash window with a flat brick arch to the right. There are two similar 20-pane sashes at the first floor, all of which are from the early 19th century. The left side of No 4 is rendered and blind. The interior has not been inspected.
