Description
This is a late 18th-century to early 19th-century house and shop, altered in the 20th century. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble, with the left side slate-hung and painted. The roof is slate, and stacks have been removed. The building occupies a corner site, with three bays facing Broad Street and two bays facing Union Hill. A shop has been inserted into the ground floor of the main front. The right-hand bays are nearly symmetrical with a bowed front; the ground floor includes a 20th-century window to the left and a shop front to the right, featuring three plate-glass windows and a glazed door with an overlight. A continuous fascia and cornice sit on consoles of the 19th century. The first floor has two 16-pane sash windows in exposed boxes to the left and a single 4-pane sash to the right. The second floor has two 12-pane sashes in exposed boxes of the early 19th century to the left and a 20th-century window to the right. The left-hand return is of one bay, with a 19th-century canted bay window with a hipped roof and plate-glass windows at ground floor, and a 19th-century six-panelled door with an overlight to the right. The first and second floors to the left have a single 16-pane sash window in an exposed box. The interior was not inspected, but may retain early 19th-century features, such as a staircase and joinery details.
