Description

The Barley Sheaf Inn is an early to mid-19th century inn, with later 19th and 20th century additions and alterations. It is constructed of stone rubble, rendered and lined out, and has a hipped slate roof with ridge tiles. A rendered stack is situated on the right side. The building is angled along the street, with one bay splayed back to the left, and two bays to the right. The front entrance is off-centre to the left, leading into one room to the right and a smaller room to the left. A rear wing extends to the right.

The two bays to the right have two 4-pane sash windows at ground and first floor, each with a brick segmental arch. A 6-panelled door with pilasters and panelled frieze is located to the left. The splayed bay to the left has two 4-pane sash windows at ground floor and one at first floor. The right side features a gable end constructed of rubble, with a 4-pane sash window with a brick segmental head at ground and first floor. A narrow gabled bay has been added to the right, built of granite ashlar, with a similar 4-pane sash window at ground and first floor. Attached to the end on the right is a lower 2-storey service wing, featuring three 4-pane sashes at first floor, a 4-pane sash and a door at ground floor, and a front lateral stack with a brick shaft. The interior has not been inspected.
