Description

This building, now a Liberal Club, was originally built as a house around 1812. Later additions were made in the 20th century, and alterations occurred in the late 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of stone rubble with roughcast, and has a slate roof. The original layout followed a double-depth plan, with a central entrance and main rooms facing the front. A one-bay addition was added to the right end in the late 19th century. The front façade is symmetrical, with three windows across three storeys, featuring band courses and quoins. All windows are fitted with plain eared architraves and keystones. A central portico with square columns and a plain entablature supports a 20th-century door. Above the door, raised lettering announces "ST COLUMB LIBERAL CLUB." A 20th-century balustrade sits above the portico. The ground floor has four-panel sash windows on either side of the portico. The first floor has four-panel sash windows to the left and right of a central set of 20th-century French windows opening onto a balcony. The second floor has three smaller four-panel sash windows. A recessed bay to the right has a 19th-century four-panel sash window at first floor. The right side features random 20th-century windows and a door. A two-storey, late 19th-century addition, set at an angle to the main range, has a door and window at ground floor, and two windows at first floor, one of which is blocked; all have brick segmental arches. The main gable end displays a 20th-century window at second floor to the left and a datestone at the apex, dated 1812. The interior was not inspected.
