Description
No. 53 Fore Street is a town house with a later shop, dating from 1840, as indicated by the date on the pediment above the parapet. The building features stucco with rustication on the ground floor, stepped sill strings, and moulded architraves. The first floor has heavy moulded hoods on consoles. The structure has a two-bay panelled parapet above a heavy moulded cornice and a bitumen-grouted slate roof. It has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a two-window range. The original windows are hornless sashes with glazing bars, and the first-floor sashes are taller. The ground floor has a late 20th-century shop window that replaced what was likely a late 19th-century shop window, along with a 20th-century door on the right and a plain overlight. The interior has not been inspected.
