Description
No. 71 on Fore Street is a mid-19th century town house. It features a stucco exterior with a plinth, a first-floor sill band, and moulded architraves. The roof is covered with asbestos slate and has projecting eaves over an entablature that includes moulded architraves, a perforated frieze, and a cornice adorned with dentils and modillions. The building has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall, with a four-window range on the first floor, which contains late 19th-century four-pane horned sash windows. The ground floor showcases two round-arched two-pane horned sashes on either side of a central pilastered doorway. This doorway is topped with a moulded entablature that has a cornice and hood, creating a porch for the recessed pilastered doorway, which still holds its original moulded one-panel door. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to retain original features. This building is included for its group value.
