Description
No. 80 Fore Street is a town house that dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with slight remodeling in the late 19th century. It is constructed from local rubble and features flat arches at the first floor and shallow segmental arches above. The roof is made of rag slate and is hipped on the right, with a brick stack on the left. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall, with a two-window range.
The late 19th-century windows are horned sashes, and the upper floors have margin panes. The ground floor includes a central late 19th-century canted bay window with horned sashes, a moulded cornice, and an iron balustrade leading to a hipped leaded roof. To the right, there is a round-arched open-pedimented doorway, which features panelled pilasters and a spoked fanlight above a six-panel door with fielded panels.
Inside, the house has an original open-well staircase with stick balusters leading to the upper flights, while the bottom flight has a later turned balustrade. The front room displays an anthemion frieze, and there is a late 19th-century vestibule door with coloured glass.
