Description
No. 96 Fore Street is a town house, likely from the 18th century, with a possible remodelling date of 1821 indicated on the rainwater head. The exterior features colour-washed slate hanging with very large slates on studwork at the front, and slate hanging on the visible ends. The roof is made of bitumen-grouted rag slate, with moulded eaves and wooden launders, which is a rare survival. The building has brick end stacks and a narrow double-depth plan. It stands three storeys high with a one-window range. On the right side, there is a three-storey canted bay with late 19th-century horned sash windows that include glazing bars. The doorway on the left is open-pedimented and round-arched, featuring a recessed spoked fanlight above a 20th-century door. This entrance is approached by five granite steps with bull nosing. The interior has not been inspected.
