Description
No. 17 New Street is a town house built in the late 18th century and remodelled in the early 19th century. It features granite rubble construction with segmental brick arches over flat granite arches and has a steep dry slate roof with brick end stacks. The building has a shallow double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window front. The first floor has early 19th-century hornless sash windows with glazing bars, while the ground floor has late 19th-century six-pane horned sashes. The central doorway, from the early 19th century, is reeded and features roundels on the corner blocks, along with a moulded cornice, panelled reveals, and a six-panel door. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is noted to have panelled window shutters similar to those found in the front doorway reveals. This house is part of a notable row of 18th-century houses that step down the hill along New Street.
