Description

This is a mid-19th century former town hall, now a large shop, situated on Fore Street, Bodmin. The building is constructed of stucco on a timber frame and has a dry Delabole slate hipped roof. It follows a double-depth plan and is three storeys high, originally with a three-window range on the second floor. The second floor features a moulded string course with a name frame positioned underneath, and moulded architraves with segmental heads. The windows are late 19th-century four-pane horned sashes, including a pair of sashes on the first floor to the right. A wide, late 20th-century shop front now occupies the ground floor, replacing a likely late 19th-century shop front. However, a full-width moulded cornice from the earlier shop front has been retained. The ground floor interior has been altered in the late 20th century. The building is included on the list for its group value.
