Description

Nos 2 and 3 South Street are a pair of attached houses located in Lostwithiel, dating from the early 19th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and 20th century. The buildings are constructed from rubble and are rendered. No 2 features an asbestos slate roof with gable ends and a brick ridge stack, while No 3 has a slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends, along with a gable end brick stack.

The houses are arranged in an L-plan, with No 2 on the left and No 3 positioned at right angles to the front right. No 2 was originally two houses, each with an end entry, and has a single-depth, three-room layout. No 3 is also single-depth, featuring a rear outshut and a two-room plan, with the larger room located to the right of the off-centre entrance.

No 2 is two storeys high with three windows. The left end bay is slightly set forward and includes a 20th-century door with a two-light casement window above. To the right, there are two 4-pane sash windows on both the ground and first floors, along with another 20th-century door. The ridge stack serves the room on the right.

No 3 is taller, also two storeys with three windows. It has 16-pane sashes on the first floor and 20-pane sashes on the ground floor, all set in exposed boxes. The entrance features a 4-panelled door with a hood, located off-centre to the left. The right side of No 3 is splayed back, with a 20th-century window on the ground floor. The rear outshut includes a 20th-century door with a 6-pane light above, and there are two flat-roofed dormers, each containing a 4-pane sash window. The interior has not been inspected.
