Description
This is a pair of attached houses, dating to circa 1750, located on Fore Street in Lostwithiel. They have been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries and are now used as a shop and cafe on the ground floor, with living accommodation above. The houses are constructed of rendered stone rubble with a slate mansard roof and a brick end stack to the right.
The building has a double-depth plan, with a central entrance leading to an open passage that provides access to rooms to the left and right. Each side has one room to the front and one to the rear, with rear service wings extending to the right and left. The houses are two storeys and have an attic, all sitting on a plinth.
The ground floor has a central doorway with a plain raised surround and a flat-hooded door supported by brackets. A plate-glass shop window is located to the left, set within a raised surround with a cambered head, while a plain plate-glass window is to the right. The first floor features a central two-light casement window, a two-light casement to the right, and a paired twelve-pane sash to the left, all within plain raised surrounds. There are also two 20th-century rooflights. A moulded eaves cornice runs along the top of the building.
The interior has been significantly altered, notably with the removal of walls between the front and rear rooms on the ground floor.
