Pendarves Mausoleum Approximately 3 Metres South Of Church Of St John The Evangelist

Pendarves Mausoleum is a structure built for the Pendarves family in the late 19th century. It is constructed from granite ashlar, including the roof, and is a small rectangular single-cell building oriented on an east-west axis, facing east. The mausoleum is designed in the Early English style and features diagonal buttresses at all corners, each with two offsets, along with matching side-wall buttresses. The gabled east front is dominated by a large two-centred arch that has a roll-moulded surround and a hoodmould with foliated stops. This arch contains coupled cusped arches supported by slender shafts with moulded annular caps, a large cusped spherical triangle at the top, and a trefoil above. The gable is coped and topped with a cross. Each of the two bays on the side walls includes trefoil lancets. The steeply pitched roof is made of five tiers of continuous triangular-sectioned granite ashlar slabs.
