Description
The public well, located at the corner of Back Lane, dates from around 1845 and was likely designed by George Wightwick of Plymouth for the Pendarves estate. It is set into a stone "hedge" that protects a small rectangular trough made of granite ashlar. The well features a gabled porch in the Gothic style, with square columnar jambs mounted on the trough, which have moulded feet and imposts. The structure includes a moulded two-centred arched head with a hoodmould, a steeply pitched gable with large kneelers, and a rolled apex. In front of the trough, there is a flat step surrounded by the remains of cobbles. This well is part of a small model village created by E.W.W. Pendarves on the site of the former hamlet of Treslothan.
