Description
The well at Higher Stennack is constructed from crude granite blocks and is believed to date back to medieval times, although its housing may have undergone some renewal or rebuilding. Currently, the well is largely submerged due to silting, but a photograph from 1960 shows it more clearly, indicating that the structure has changed little since then.
The well housing is set into the sloping ground, featuring a wide lintel with a slightly arched top that rests on the side revetment walls, while the back wall is curved. It is thought that there are, or were, steps leading to the front of the well. A survey conducted in 1971 noted that the structure is approximately 1 meter wide and about 1.5 meters deep.
