Description

Boteto Lodge is a mid to late 19th-century gate lodge, originally serving the west drive of the Pendarves estate. Constructed primarily of snecked granite with quoins and some brick dressings, it has a slate roof and brick chimneys. The lodge faces the drive from its north side and follows a rectangular, double-depth plan. It is two storeys high and symmetrically arranged with three bays. A plinth supports the walls, and a central gabled porch with a four-centred arched outer doorway provides access. The ground floor has two windows, while the first floor has three. All windows are wooden cross-window casements with raised sills and large rectangular lintels. Blind gabled dormers are positioned above the first-floor windows, each featuring a decorated brick surround incorporating a saw-toothed band. Corniced gable chimneys are present. The lodge was built to control access to the west drive of the Pendarves family’s domestic estate.
