Description

CAMBORNE MILL LANE SW 63 NW (south side) 7/64 Pendarves The Old Mill II

Water-powered corn mill, now store. Probably early C19; altered. Uncoursed granite rubble with granite quoins and dressings, slate roof. Rectangular plan on east-west axis. Four storeys and 3 bays, symmetrical; central doorway at ground floor with loading door im mediately above, 2 windows on each of these floors and 3 on each floor above, mostly square but those on the top floor lower, and all with raised sills and altered glazing; quoined surrounds and rectangular lintels to all these openings. Half-hipped roof. At the left end a ramp with rubble retaining wall leads from higher ground to a doorway at 1st floor, but a modern garage of concrete blocks has been built on the ramp and covers the doorway; and there is a window to the top floor. The right-hand end wall has a doorway at ground floor, windows at 1st and 3rd floors; and an added garage. Immediately to the rear is a narrow wheel-pit for a water wheel (missing), and remains of the millrace. Interior: timber beams and flooring (partly demolished), with grain shoot and grindstones, etc. An unusually complete survival of its type in the area covered by this list.
