Description

Dysart Mausoleum is a Grade II* listed building constructed around 1880. It is made of ashlar stone with stone slab roofs and features a moulded plinth, eaves, gable bands, and verges in a Gothic style. The mausoleum is a single storey with three bays. The west front has a central gabled porch flanked by buttresses, featuring a heavily moulded pointed doorway with rounded jambs, an ogee hood mould, and a finial. The door is made of planks and has elaborate bronze strap hinges and a cross. Above the door is a traceried roundel that contains a shield and a cross. On either side of the porch are large gabled corner buttresses with traceried panels.

The east side features a central gable with flanking buttresses, which hold a plain leaded graduated triple lancet with a heavily moulded reveal and hood mould. Above this is a small double lancet ventilator with a hood mould. Each side has large gabled corner buttresses. The north and south gables each have two corner buttresses with setoffs, and above them is an unglazed three-light mullioned ventilator. Surrounding the mausoleum is a low coped wall topped with a spiked railing supported by baluster-shaped posts, with a gateway on the east side. The mausoleum was erected by the Trustees of the Eighth Earl of Dysart, who passed away in 1878.
