Description

The Cavendish-Bentwick Mausoleum is a mausoleum built around 1900 for the Cavendish-Bentwick family, who were the Dukes of Portland. Designed by R Weir Schultz, it is constructed from ashlar and takes the form of a Greek Doric temple. The mausoleum features a two-step podium and a distyle in antis colonnade that supports a full entablature with a corniced pediment. This pediment includes a block finial and animal-headed rainwater spouts. The entrance is set back and has a panelled double door within an architrave. At the rear, there is an internally shuttered opening with an architrave and a pediment similar to the front.
