Description
The Black Horse Public House is an early 18th-century establishment that has been extended and altered over time. It is constructed of red brick with a tiled roof and features two storeys plus an attic. The central entrance at the front has been converted into a window with an architrave, flanked by canted bay windows on the ground floor. The first floor has three flush frame glazing bar sash windows with cambered brick heads, and there is one blind window to the left of the centre. A stuccoed plinth and a continuous plat band, mostly hidden by the bay windows, are also present. There is a stack on the right side of the front pitch, and the left return has a ground floor entrance beneath a gabled hood. A second plat band is located at the eaves level, with a sash window on the first floor and a casement window in the attic. An external stack has been added to the rear of the ridge. The right return wall is roughcast. At the rear, there is a full-height short gabled wing from the original construction, along with a 19th-century lean-to and 20th-century one-storey extensions at the rear and to the right. Inside, the upper part of the original staircase remains, featuring turned balusters and a square newel, along with some original roof timbers.
