Description

Mymsmead is a house located on Blanche Lane in South Mimms, likely built in the early 17th century. By 1787, it was converted into two cottages, and by 1842, it had been divided into four cottages. The building features a brick ground floor and roughcast above, which is likely timber-framed, topped with a tiled roof.

Originally, it had a three-bay lobby entry that was extended by one bay to the left. The house is two storeys tall, with a central entrance in a slightly projecting bay that has a plank door set in a timber case with a four-centred head and a bracketed, moulded hood. On either side of the entrance are two-light lattice casements, and there is a three-light casement to the left. To the right, there is a rectangular ground floor bay.

The first floor is roughcast and features two-light casements, three of which are leaded, with one having timber glazing bars. A large axial ridge stack is positioned between the two right bays, while a smaller ridge stack is found between the two left bays. There is also an external end wall stack to the left. The right return of the building includes a large two-storey semi-octagonal bay addition with tile-hanging on the first floor. Additionally, there is a two-storey tile-hung extension with an open ground floor and a hipped roof at the rear right, along with a lean-to brick extension that has a side entrance at the rear left. The interior has not been inspected.
