Description

Cedar House is a house dating from the mid to late 18th century, with extensions and alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of yellow brick, with later additions in red brick, and has a slate hipped roof. The original three-bay front features a central entrance with a panelled door, a semi-circular fanlight, and a doorcase with slim pilasters and a bracketed, dentilled, moulded hood. Large 19th-century bay windows are set into the ground floor, and Venetian windows flank a central round-headed window on the first floor, all with glazing bar sashes. A coped parapet tops the facade. The house has been extended to the left, with an extruded stack on the front wall featuring decorative scrolls on the stepping up of the breast to the stack. A rounded angle marks the return on the extension to the right. The left return wall has a two-storey canted bay. To the rear left is a single-storey addition with a diagonally set entrance within a Neo-Georgian doorcase. Further rambling extensions to the right and rear incorporate a modillion eaves cornice and sash windows. The interior has not been inspected. The building has group value.
