Description

The White Hart Public House is a late 17th century to early 18th century building that has been refaced, significantly altered, and extended in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a timber frame with a brick front facing Blanche Lane and a 20th century timber and plaster facade on a brick plinth for the fronts and rear facing St. Albans Road. The building has a tiled hipped roof and is L-shaped with extensions, standing two storeys high with an attic. The main front includes a central entrance within a 19th century canted bay on the ground floor, flanked by two first floor sash windows. There is a stack on the front pitch to the left of centre. The right return wing is an extension with its own hipped roof. The Blanche Lane front has two ground floor canted bays beside the entrance, with two bays to the right featuring glazing bar sashes; the first floor windows break the eaves line under gablets. An end stack is located to the right, and the left return has a ground floor extension and first floor sashes. At the rear, there is a gable on the main range along with later extensions. Inside, the first floor retains plaster ceilings, panelling, and a fireplace from the original building.
