Description
This is a barn, likely a granary over a shippon, dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed mainly of granite rubble, featuring dressed granite quoins, sills, jambstones, and lintels. The roof is half-hipped and covered with slurried scantle slate, with pigeon holes located under the eaves. The building has a rectangular plan, with a central entrance at the front and a first-floor loading doorway at the rear. It stands two storeys tall and has a symmetrical east front, which includes a central doorway flanked by one small window on each side, as well as a small blocked loading hatch above, with three pigeon holes on either side under the eaves. The doorway and ground floor window are topped with granite lintels and sills; the door is ledged, and the windows are boarded up. The interior has not been inspected. This barn is part of a planned group of farm buildings associated with Tranno Farmhouse, which has remained largely unaltered since the 19th century. It is set in unspoiled open coastal farmland.
