Description
The piggery at Methleigh Farm, built in the mid-19th century, is a single-storey structure featuring a range of six sties. Constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings, it has a grouted scantle slate roof. The front of the building has six doorways fitted with 20th-century planked doors that retain their original hinges and other hardware. The rear includes six feeding hatches and four slit ventilators. Inside, the floors are cobbled, and there are granite troughs along with the original roof structure supported by nailed collars.
A notable feature is a rubble wall that runs at right angles in front of the building on the right, which has a splayed design and includes a gate pier with a moulded head at the front end. This pier is similar to one found on the wall attached to the implement shed. The wall contains two openings and is accompanied by two troughs that were originally supplied with water from the mill leat. The water supply system at Methleigh, which serves the mill, farm buildings, house, and gardens, is a significant achievement in planning and engineering, likely the most complex of its kind in Cornwall.
