Description
The China Clay Store, built in 1893, is a Grade II listed structure located at Breageside, Inner Harbour in Porthleven. This building is constructed from whitewashed granite rubble and features a slate monopitch roof with gabled ends, including a light at the south end.
The store has a rectangular plan and consists of three cells, positioned on the quay and built into the cliff at the rear, facing the Inner Harbour. The symmetrical east front displays three round or cambered arch entrances, each with a small square hatch above. There is a similar entrance at the south end and an additional hatch at the north end.
The interior has been partly converted, with floors inserted. It is noted that this china clay store may have been constructed by Harvey's of Hayle, the same company that built the harbour at Porthleven.
