Description

The Old Custom House is an account house that later became a customs house, built in 1840 for William Cudlip. It features a granite ashlar front with a plinth, rusticated quoins, sills, a string course, segmental arches, and a parapet with coping. The roof is made of asbestos slate. The building has a deep plan and stands two storeys tall, with a three-window range and a loading doorway located to the left of centre. The windows are 20th-century hornless sashes, including a pair above the loading doorway, which has double doors, sidelights, and a blind fanlight. There are also openings with 20th-century windows and a carriage entrance on the right, with all doorways featuring elliptical arches. The initials WEC and the date 1840 are displayed above the left-hand doorway. The ground floor has been altered in the 20th century, and the interior has not been inspected.
