Description

The former smithy, now part of The Ship Inn, is a blacksmith's shop dating from the early 19th century. It features painted rubble walls and a grouted scantle slate roof that slopes down over an outshut at the rear left, with a brick stack on the right. The building has a small L-shaped plan and is a single storey with a one-window range. There is an original 16-pane hornless sash window high up towards the right, a blocked central doorway, and a doorway on the left. The right-hand end includes an original 12-pane horizontal-sliding sash window on the left. The rear has a 20th-century doorway, and the outshut has a doorway at the east end. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value as part of a planned early 19th-century port.
