Description
The Blacksmiths House and Smithy, located at Watergate, is a house and adjoining smithy that is now used as a store. It dates from the early 19th century and is constructed of rubble stone. The house features brick segmental arches over its openings and has a slate roof with brick stacks at the gable ends. It is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front. The ground floor includes a tripartite sash window with glazing bars, flanked by 16-pane sash windows, and a central timber door. On the first floor, there are three 16-pane sashes without horns.
The smithy, which is attached to the right-hand gable end of the house, is a single-storey structure that now has a plastic corrugated lean-to roof, replacing its original slate gable-ended roof. It has a large opening on the left side and two square openings on the right with timber shutters, along with a brick stack at the rear. The interior of the smithy contains two large fireplaces, while the interior of the house has not been inspected.
