Description
Trevedda Farmhouse is a farmhouse, likely originating in the 17th century, that was remodeled in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of rubble stone, with parts of the front being slate hung and rendered. The roof is slate, featuring hipped ends on the projecting wings at the south front, a gabled end on the central projecting wing, and a gabled lower roof on the rear projecting wing. There are brick and rendered stacks on the projecting side wings, and a stone lateral stack on the northwest of the rear wing. The building has an almost symmetrical E-shaped plan.
The main range includes a large hall living room that remains largely unaltered and likely retains elements from the 17th-century hall. A dairy is located in the projecting wing on the southwest, while the southeast projecting wing comprises two rooms that were remodeled in the 19th century. The central wing of the E is accessed from the inside hall through a wide segmental arch that leads to an anteroom lined with 19th-century timber panelling. This area has two doors that enclose a pair of flanking 19th-century framed staircases leading to the upper rooms.
The farmhouse is two storeys high with an asymmetrical five-window south front, where the ground rises to the left (west). There is a large timber lintel above a blocked opening on the right side wall of the left projecting wing. The central range features a four-pane casement under a stone arch on the left and a wide panelled door on the right of the central projecting wing, with a double four-pane sash in the centre. The right-hand projecting wing has a four-pane sash. On the first floor, there is a two-light centre-hung casement (each two panes) under a stone arch on the left, a 19th/20th-century two-pane sash, and a four-pane casement flanking double four-pane sashes in the centre, along with a 19th/20th-century four-pane sash in the right-hand wing. Timber lintels are present over the openings on the rear wing.
Inside, the farmhouse features an almost completely unaltered mid-19th-century interior, with a very large central living room that resembles a traditional hall plan but has an unusual arrangement with two staircases rising from it. The two mid-19th-century staircases and the joinery, including hall benches and chimney pieces, are remarkably intact. The roof has not been inspected.
