Description
Hall Farmhouse is a manor house that has been converted into a farmhouse, with origins dating back to the 17th century and possibly earlier. It features a projecting wing from the 18th century to the south and a rear wing from the mid-19th century, which has a catslide roof on the north side. The building is constructed of rubblestone, partly rendered, and has a large stone stack on the right-hand gable end of a slate roof, which is hipped on the left. The south wing has a scantle slate roof that is slightly lower in height and features a half-hipped end with a brick axial stack. The house has a single depth plan that extends to form an L-shape, with an added outshut in the angle and a projecting south wing at the front.
It is two storeys high with a regular three-window south front. A timber door is located near the centre under a 20th-century gabled rendered porch with a slate roof. There are tripartite 19th-century timber sash windows to the right and left, as well as above the door. The south wing, which projects from the right-hand side, is also two storeys and constructed of rubblestone. The west front features three two-light timber casements on the ground floor and a single light casement on the first floor, with a timber door in the hipped end. The interior of the house has not been inspected. Historically, the house belonged to the Fitzwilliam family before passing to the Mohuns. An inventory from 1608 recorded a large house with over 30 rooms. The building suffered considerable damage during the Civil War, and a domestic chapel, which is now in ruins, is located to the south.
