Carne Farmhouse

Carne Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid 18th century, with later additions. It features whitewashed rubblestone on the ground floor and slate hung on the first floor, topped with a slate roof that has gable ends. A large stone chimney with a brick shaft is located on the left gable end, while a brick stack is on the right gable end. The original layout was a two-room and cross passage plan, with a mid-19th century outshut at the rear under a cat slide roof.

The front of the house is symmetrical with three windows. There is a central gabled rubble stone porch from the late 19th century, which has a slate roof and a door on the left side. Flanking the porch are two 4-pane sash windows from the 19th or 20th century, with three more above.

The interior has not been inspected. The farmhouse is located on the site of the manor of Tolcarne, which was inherited by the Mohuns from the Fitzwilliam family, although its manorial status was lost by the end of the 14th century.
