Description

Essa is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with a 20th-century extension at the rear. The building is constructed from whitewashed rubble stone and features a slate roof. It has a large projecting stone stack on the left gable end and a brick stack on the right hipped end. Originally, the farmhouse consisted of two rooms with a cross passage.

The structure is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical two-window front. On the ground floor, there are two 2-light casements, with the left window featuring glazing bars. The central door is accompanied by a rendered 20th-century porch. On the upper floor, there are two more 2-light casements, with the right-hand window also having glazing bars.

To the left of the gable end, there is a single-storey store made of rubble stone with a slate roof and two double doors. The interior of the building has not been inspected. Historically, in the 13th century, the Manor of Polruan, also known as Esse or Ussa, belonged to the Daubeny family. By the end of the 14th century, the manor had been divided and was linked with the Manor of Lanteglos.
