7/16 Tranno Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse and adjoining cottage now one house. Circa early-mid C19, adjoining the site of an older house. Killas rubble with granite quoins, sills, hipped grouted scantle slate roof with brick chimneys over side walls and axial chimney over cross wall between house and cottage, cast iron ogee gutters. Double depth rectangular plan: 2 principal front rooms, the slightly larger kitchen/living room to the right and the parlour to the left, and with 2 shallower service rooms behind; a central cross passage leads to a stair well at the back. Attached to left, an integral 1-room wide plan cottage with its separate entrance to the right and probably a service room behind the main front room. At the back of the main house a probably later porch with a small integral unheated room in a lean-to behind the back door. 2 storeys. Overall 4 window south front: nearly symmetrical 3 window house front, right, with doorway slightly left of middle and one window front of integral cottage left. Possibly original panelled door with overlight and circa late C19 4-pane horned sashes. Rear has five original 16-pane hornless sashes and mid-floor taller stair sash with marginal panes. Interior partly inspected is little altered since the C19 retaining most of the structural features and joinery.
