Description

Tranno Farmhouse is a farmhouse and adjoining cottage that has been converted into one house. It dates from the early to mid-19th century and is located on the site of an older house. The structure is built from killas rubble with granite quoins and sills, topped with a hipped grouted scantle slate roof. It features brick chimneys on the side walls and an axial chimney over the cross wall between the house and the cottage, along with cast iron ogee gutters.

The building has a double depth rectangular plan with two main front rooms: a slightly larger kitchen/living room on the right and a parlour on the left, along with two shallower service rooms at the back. A central cross passage leads to a stairwell at the rear. Attached to the left is an integral cottage with a one-room wide plan and a separate entrance to the right, likely with a service room behind the main front room. At the back of the main house, there is probably a later porch with a small unheated room in a lean-to behind the back door.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has an overall four-window south front. The front is nearly symmetrical with three windows for the house on the right, a doorway slightly left of the middle, and one window for the integral cottage on the left. The front features a possibly original panelled door with an overlight and late 19th-century four-pane horned sash windows. The rear has five original 16-pane hornless sash windows and a taller mid-floor stair sash with marginal panes. The interior, which was partly inspected, remains largely unaltered since the 19th century, retaining most of its structural features and joinery.
