Description
The bridge located approximately 150 metres east of Chyverton House was built around 1780 for John Thomas. It is constructed from coursed killas, featuring a killas parapet string, a brick arch, brick parapets, and dressed granite copings. This single span humped-back bridge has wider approaches at both ends and a segmental arch with brick voussoirs. Below the parapets, there is a stone string, and the parapet copings are square-edged. This bridge is a complete and unaltered 18th-century structure, serving as the main architectural feature in a landscaped garden that retains much of its original 18th-century planting and design. It was designed as a carriageway bridge over a dammed stream and as an ornamental element in a planned informal garden that predominantly features native or long-established species of trees.
