Description
The Methodist Chapel, dated 1860, features dressed killas brought to course with rusticated granite dressings and dry Delabole slate roofs with gable ends. The front has a pedimented gable and a brick chimney over the lower rear gable end of the vestry/organ loft. It has cast-iron ogee-section gutters. The chapel has a rectangular aisle-less plan with the chapel situated above a schoolroom on the ground floor, and a narrower organ loft over the vestry at the rear.
The building is two storeys high with unaltered elevations, retaining original doors and windows in round-headed openings. Granite rustications surround these openings, and there are chamfered rusticated quoins. The symmetrical entrance front has a 1:3:1 bay configuration with a granite string at the first floor and a moulded granite pediment. The central ground floor window, which has the datestone beneath it, is flanked by a pair of doorways. The central bays are slightly projected forward and feature panelled doors with spoked fanlights. The windows are hornless sashes with glazing bars and spoked heads.
Inside, the chapel retains original galleries on all four sides, supported by wooden Tuscan columns. There are original box pews over the galleries, along with moulded plaster ceiling cornices and an ornate central rose with acanthus detail. An inserted floor between the gallery fronts was added around 1953, and ground floor seating was removed at that time.
