Description
Wesleyan Chapel, built in 1845, is constructed of uncoursed killas stone, with the south front featuring coursed stone and granite quoins around the windows. The chapel has a slate roof adorned with crested ridge tiles. It has a gable end facing the street, with a central entrance leading to a cross lobby. The building includes four window bays and a schoolroom at the north end, which has a hipped roof. The entrance features panelled doors set within a painted arched opening, complete with a hood moulding. Inside, the hall has a raised choir and a gallery above the entrance. Tall round-headed windows flank the sides, with red stone ashlar arches and granite keystones. The gable is coped and includes a roundel and hood mould. The timber window frames consist of two arched lights with a circular feature at the top, and two transoms, with stained glass dating from around 1910 to 1920. The side windows are similar but have recurved glazing bars that form a lozenge shape, with brick arches and stone keys, and diamond-patterned glazing. The schoolroom has two closely spaced round-headed windows and a two-flue chimney on the rear wall of the chapel. There are two windows at the rear and an entrance on the side.
Inside, the walls are rendered and lined to resemble ashlar with black mortar, and the ceiling is panelled and boarded. The fittings, likely from the late 19th century, are complete. The raised central pulpit is slightly cantilevered with a curved front, and an organ is positioned behind it, flanked by three tiers of choir benches. The front features iron openwork panelling. The main hall contains 31 numbered pine pews arranged in three blocks. A screen under the gallery leads to the lobby, which has stained glass lights at the centre. There are railings around the communion table and a side passage leading to the schoolroom, which is now used as a meeting room. The interior also features exposed ceiling trusses and wall dado panelling, along with a small kitchen annex.
