Description
Raleigh House is a farmhouse that has been converted into a smallholding. It dates back to the 17th century and was re-windowed in the 19th century. The building is constructed from uncoursed killas rubble and features a slate roof. The layout consists of five bays, which are approximately symmetrical around a central entrance leading to a through hall that connects to a stair block at the rear. To the left is a dairy wing, while the kitchen is located in a narrow linhay room behind the living room on the right side of the hall. The house has two storeys.
The front elevation includes a porch with a gabled chamber above, supported by painted granite columns, which have been later infilled at the sides. There is a five-panel fielded door and sixteen-paned sash windows with timber lintels. The upper floor windows in the inner bays have been blocked, but there are twin eight-paned sashes on the ground floor to the left of the porch. The porch chamber features a tripartite sixteen-paned sash window. The building has brick stacks.
Inside, there is a fully panelled screen between the hall and the living room, bead-moulded joists, and some notable four- and six-panelled doors. The fireplaces have been blocked, and the dairy has been ceiled.
