Description
The Plume of Feathers Public House is an inn that dates back to the early 18th century and was remodeled in the late 19th century. It is constructed from rendered cob and stone, with the eastern wing made of stone, and features a slate roof. The main block consists of three bays with a central entrance located under a porch chamber supported by granite columns.
To the left, there is a wing that was formerly a service range, extending the front by one bay and previously featuring a large stack on the gable end. The right bay has been extended to the rear by three bays, which now serve as kitchens, and includes two raking buttresses. The wings create a narrow rear courtyard that was enclosed in the 20th century.
The front elevation has a pair of glazed doors accessed by two steps, and all front windows are double-hung sashes with the upper sash containing two panes. There is a sill band present, and the porch is gabled with shaped and perforated 19th-century bargeboards. A brick stack on the left bay has been rebuilt, and there are twelve-paned sashes on the upper floor of the west wing. The interior has been significantly altered in the 20th century.
