Description

No. 23 Montague Hill is an attached house built in the late 18th century and extended around 1865. It features a combination of limestone ashlar, stucco, and coursed rubble, with a roof that is not visible. The house has a double-depth plan and is designed in a mid-Georgian style, standing three storeys tall with a basement and two bays.

The southeast front, made of ashlar, showcases full-height canted bays topped with a coped parapet, small string courses, and windows with 6/6-pane sashes flanked by 4/4-pane sashes. The northeast road elevation, which was built over the extended basement area, consists of a two-storey, three-window range. This elevation is divided by rusticated pilasters on the ground floor and plain pilasters on the first floor, featuring a cornice, piers, and railings at the top. The ground floor includes a right-hand 8-panel door and two blind windows, while the outer first-floor windows are 6/6-pane sashes. The rubble basement has a small segmental-arched doorway with a studded door. The interior has not been inspected.
