Description
Kingsdown House is an attached house built around 1780, located on Kingsdown Parade in Bristol. It features a stucco exterior with limestone dressings and has a double-depth plan in the mid Georgian style. The house stands three storeys tall with a basement and has a three-window range. The parapet and gable have moulded coping, and the central, projecting doorcase is adorned with pilasters and a canopy, along with a rectangular overlight and a six-panel door.
On the left side, there is a 19th-century two-storey canted bay with plate-glass sashes on the ground floor and sashes with margin bars on the first floor, topped with a dentil cornice. The remaining windows are 6/6-pane sashes, slightly lower over the door, with semicircular heads to the right on both the ground and first floors. The symmetrical rear of the house features small cast-iron balconies at the ground-floor windows.
Inside, the central hall includes a dogleg stair with stick balusters, six-panel doors, double shutters with two panels, and fluted fireplaces with roundels. The property also has subsidiary features, including attached front area railings with urn finials that lead up Pennant steps to the door, and a rubble garden wall on the right side, which has a brick pointed-arched doorway.
