Description

Number 31 is an attached end of terrace house located on Somerset Street in Kingsdown, Bristol, dating from around 1790. The building is constructed of stucco with limestone dressings, featuring slate-hung upper floors on the side and a brick end stack, although the roof is not visible. It has a double-depth plan and is designed in a mid Georgian style, standing three storeys tall with a basement and a one-bay range.

The front of the house has a parapet and includes a canted full-height bay to the right, which was rebuilt in the late 19th century using ashlar stone. This bay features patterned plat bands and panels of coursed stone bricks, with 6/6-pane sash windows and flanking 4/4-pane sashes that are smaller on the second floor. The right side of the building has stucco on the ground floor and slate above, with a central doorway that has a pediment supported by thin brackets. This doorway is semicircular-arched and includes a 4-pane fanlight above a 6-panel door. The rear elevation mirrors the front with a matching full-height bay.

The property features subsidiary elements such as pennant steps and a raised pavement leading to the doorway, set on a Lias wall, along with wrought-iron railings. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
