Description

An attached pair of houses, dated 1840. They are built of limestone ashlar with a roof that is not visible. The houses follow a double-depth plan and are in a late Georgian style. Each house is three storeys high, with a basement and attic, and has a single-window elevation. A single-storey entrance block is set back on the right side, featuring pilasters to a cornice and parapet, a rectangular overlight, and a two-leaf, two-panel door; the entrance to number 1 is in the left return. The main block is divided by a shallow vertical recess, and each house has broad pilasters forming a shallow recess below a cornice and parapet. There is a ground-floor cornice and sill bands. The tripartite ground-floor windows have six-pane sashes flanked by two-pane sashes, while the windows above have ten-pane sashes. Deep balconies are present to the first floor, and a large twentieth-century dormer is visible. A pedimented name and date panel is set into the parapet. The left return has pilasters and a central arched section containing the doorway; the ground floor is blank, and windows above have ten-pane sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
