Description

Numbers 3 and 4 Apsley Villas are an attached pair of houses built around 1850, located on Kingsdown Parade in Bristol. They are designed in the Italianate style and constructed from limestone ashlar. The buildings feature a double-depth plan and consist of three storeys, a basement, and an attic, with each house having a single-window range.

The entrance blocks are single-storey and set back to the sides, featuring pilasters that support a cornice and parapet. Each entrance has a rectangular overlight and two-leaf, two-panel doors. The main block of each house is separated by a shallow vertical recess, with banded rustication on the ground floor and pilasters with imposts leading to a wide, shallow, elliptical arch, topped with a cornice and parapet.

The windows include three semicircular-arched hornless sashes with horizontal bars. The ground floor has a shallow pediment above the windows, while the first floor features a cornice on moulded consoles and a plain surround on the second floor. The first-floor windows also have deep balconies supported by brackets. There are 20th-century dormers, with the one on No. 4 breaking the cornice.

The property includes attached front garden walls made of Pennant ashlar and capped piers. The interior has not been inspected.
